:Take A Moment To Think About This Challenge:
Congratulations on reading carefully to this point. This is challenging material. You are to be commended for taking this material seriously. No one wants to see an infant or child in danger. That´s why it is important for you to know how to act in a potentially life saving manner if an infant or child in your care is in danger. Keep reading carefully. There is one more important section in this report.
The following page summarizes some of the techniques to use if an infant is choking. Included are several techniques which are slightly different from those offered in the first five pages of this report. Do not be concerned by this. When you take it upon yourself to received hands on training in first aid and CPR, You will use the specific techniques taught to you in those classes. Use all other instructions as mere background for that hands on training!
:If Circulations Stops:
This report´s final section concerns the background knowledge relevant to getting an infant´s or child´s heart started, If it should stop.
That´s an incredible thought, is it? You can help another person´s heart to resume pumping blood through his or her body, if you use the correct techniques. Will you be capable of doing that, simply by reading through the end of this report? Unfortunately, the answer is probably not. But fortunately, when you seek hands on training in first aid and CPR, The information from this report will help you to learn the correct techniques much quicker and more accurately than if you did not read this report.
:Chest Compression:
Properly performed will cause the blood to circulate in an infant or child. Before compressing anyone´s chest, you must be capable of determining that the blood flow is temporarily stopped. You do this by checking the infant´s or child´s pulse. In essence, one´s pulse indicates whether or not blood is pumping throughout the body, assuming that the individual is not bleeding profusely. To check for a pulse, try to do the following.
:Infants:
With the infant on his or her back, press gently on the inside of the infant´s upper arm, an inch or two from the shoulder.
:Child:
With the child on his or her back, press gently on the child´s neck where the adam´s apple would be, then slide your fingers towards the side of the child´s neck nearest to you, stopping before you reach the large muscle on the side of his or her neck.
:If a Pulse is Present:
But other emergency conditions exist, such as airway obstruction, then continue the required emergency actions. However, If no pulse is found, then you will need to perform chest compression. As you gather your thoughts, be sure to summon help in any manner you can. Have someone else call EMS assistance.
:To Properly Perform Chest Compression:
You will need to practice during hands on training. Do not practice on another person! It would be dangerous to practice on another person! But the procedure for performing chest compression can be understood if you carefully read on.
